During Key Stage 2 Science education, pupils will cover the four main areas of learning which are,
Scientific enquiry - Using methods such as diagrams, drawings, tables, bar charts, line graphs, and ICT to communicate data in an appropriate and systematic manner.
Life processes and living things – Animal and human nutrition, growth and reproduction, and the environment we live in. Functions and care of teeth, diet and good health. Human and animal skeletons, muscles, life cycles, food chains and plants.
Materials and their properties – Thermal insulators, electrical conductors, rocks and soils, solids, liquids and gases, evaporation, condensation, reversible and non-reversible matter changes.
Physical processes – Circuits, batteries, electrical devices, magnetic materials, the effects of light, vibrations, and the initial introduction to astronomy, covering the Sun, Moon and Stars.
To summarise this, pupils will learn about a wider range of living things, materials and phenomena. They begin to make links between ideas and explain things using simple models and theories. They apply their knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas to familiar phenomena, everyday things and their personal health.
They begin to think about positive and negative effects of scientific and technological developments on the environment and in other contexts.
They carry out more systematic investigations, working on their own and with others, use a range of reference sources in their work, talk about their work and its significance, and communicate ideas using a wide range of scientific language, conventional diagrams, charts and graphs.
Combining games with learning is a fantastic way to teach children, making education fun for them is the key to success.
